Biking, Hiking, and more in the Great Outdoors

Enjoy Biking, Hiking, Swimming, Paragliding, Hang Gliding, Skiing and more!

Outdoor enthusiasts will find dozens of activities to enjoy in our wide open spaces, including biking, hiking, golfing, swimming, boating, fishing, shooting, western-style horseback riding, hang gliding, parasailing, and skiing.

You're sure to enjoy walking and biking along the Harlem Valley Rail Trail (www.hvrt.org). Formerly a rail-road right-of-way, it offers roughly 13 paved miles from Main Street in Millerton south to the Wassaic Train station, where you can board a Metro-North train to Manhattan's Grand Central Terminal.

Bash Bish Falls State Park in Mt. Washington, MA is another popular and picturesque hiking and biking destination.

Equestrian events are a summer staple in Dutchess County, and the Fitches Corners Horse Trials at Fitches Corners and the Millbrook Horse Trials are among the best.

Sports car racing at Lime Rock Park is a 50-year tradition, offering exciting races, vintage car shows, and their extraordinary driving school.

Winter brings quiet and serene outdoor beauty, which can be enjoyed by cross-country skiing in the vast Taconic State Park. There's also downhill skiing at Catamount, Butternut and Mohawk mountains, all less than 30 minutes away.

Find delicious treats at our farm markets, stands, and shops.

Farm Markets and Farm Stands abound along our country roads through summer and fall. Pick your own fruit, vegetables, or pumpkins to bring home, or take home freshly-baked delicacies and homemade jams! Look for organic produce, mouth-watering corn-on-the-cob, and free-range chicken eggs.

Millerton's organic farm market operates summer Saturdays from 9am to 1pm on Dutchess Avenue (Memorial Day through the end of October). An average of 18 farmers set up to sell their wares, ranging from fruit and meat, to sheepskins, flowers, eggs, baked goods and more, each weekend.

Pick up fresh produce, locally raised beef and lamb, baked goods and fun or formal bunches of flowers at Silamar Farm, Daisi Hill Farm and McEnroe's Organic Farm Store, all on Route 22, just south of Millerton.

Shop Millerton's Main Street for flowers and arrangements from the Country Gardener and Kamilla's Floral Boutique.
